By far, this is Seattle’s most hyped donut shop in 2020. It took us weeks to submit an online pre-order because this shop sells out in minutes. After we finally made our pre-order, we arrived at the brand-new Hillman City neighborhood location. The Flour Box prominently displays this sign, self-proclaiming to sell Seattle’s #1 donuts. That’s a bold statement in a city filled with amazing donuts. Do they measure up? We will be comparing with Seattle’s formidable contenders throughout the upcoming weeks.
The Flour Box is definitely the most inviting donut shop we’ve visited with beautifully-designed indoor and outdoor seating. We’re certain this will be a great hangout location when when the pandemic is over. We even noticed cornhole boards in the covered area for some good old-fashioned entertainment.
The Flour Box sells filled brioche donuts, coffee, and tea. Every week brings a new flavor here. Perhaps the durian flavor this week would put off some of the less adventurous, but, considering that pre-orders for 600 durian donuts were sold for a single day within minutes, this was clearly not the case! We opted for 4 durian donuts and a Shy Fog Latte. The dough was delicious and one of the best examples of a brioche donut we have ever tried. It was the perfect combination of light, airy, and buttery. We personally found that the durian flavored cream filling was a little much for us, but the the texture of the filling was delectably light and we are confident that many will find the durian flavor appealing. We greatly look forward to trying many new flavors from The Flour Box. We see that they will soon be selling creme brûlée flavored donuts and we are extremely tempted to visit two weekends in a row. That is, if we can manage to pre-order within seconds before the supply is out…
